The Area

The jewel in the crown of Waikato, Lake Karapiro is an international class water sports venue, offering 7.7 square kilometres of flat water for canoeists, water-skiers, yachties & boaties and of course, rowers.

Lake Karapiro Domain is only 2.5 kilometres south of Cambridge in New Zealands’ North Island, off State Highway One.

Whether you are staying  or here only for the day Lake Karapiro is a beautiful place to relax and enjoy the lake and surrounding scenary.  There is a boat ramp at the domain that is open for public use during the year unless there is a lake closure for an event (see the events calendar).

Lake Karapiro is famous for rowing and has been the training ground for many of New Zealand’s top rowers, including Rob and Sonia Waddell, and Olympic gold medallists Caroline and Georgina Evers-Swindell .
It has been chosen to host the 2010 World Rowing Championships, an exciting event not to be missed!
